Best showing for Vineyard to Bay

Nearly 300 runners came out Sunday for the Vineyard to Bay 15k and 5k.

The race contributed more than $14,000 to TART Trails, Suttons Bay Schools and the TCAPS.

“We had 118 finish the 5k and 165 finish the 15k,” event coordinator Ross Deye said. “This is our best showing at this race yet.”

Awards were given out to the winners of each age group, and the younger age groups top three earned medals.

In the 5k, Kevin Deyo finished in first place overall with a time of 18:48. Jami Grant was the overall female winner, and second overall, with a final time of 19:36.

Bill Rokos finished first in the Masters section, and third overall, with a time of 19:50. Kelly Slater of Suttons Bay finished in first of the female Masters section with a final time of 25:09.

Grand Master winners were James Larson with a time of 20:22 and Donna Kaysserian with a final time of 25:17. Larson placed fifth overall in the race.

Keegan Verrett Kiel was the first male at nine years-old or younger to finish, as he crossed the line with a time of 22:23. Kiel took seventh overall in the event. Evelyn Argo was the first nine year-old or younger girl to cross the finish, as she finished with a time of 28:38.

For the 10-14 year old age group, Jaiden Thompson was the first boy to cross the line. Thompson finished with a time of 21:34 and took sixth overall. Kylanna Verrett Kiel was the first girl to cross in the age group, as she finished with a time of 26:36. Mackenzie Hoecherl took first place in the female age group of 15-19 year olds. She finished with a time of 28:10.

In the 15k, Corey Valdez finished first overall with a time of 54:58. Matt Nester of Maple City crossed the line second overall with a final time of 55:15.

Erica Harrell was the first female to cross the finish line, ninth overall, as she finished with a time of 1:05:11. Tracy Argo won the female masters group with a final time of 1:10:44.

Rick Hawley placed seventh overall and won the male masters group with a final time of 1:01:50. Frank Treadwell won the grand masters group with a time of 1:07:18, and Garrett Grant won the boys nine and under age group with a time of 1:23:37.

Ashley Miller won the female ages 20-24 group, as she finished with a time of 1:20:29. Aimee Marsh won the female ages 25-29 group with a final time of 1:07:48.

Heather Abramouski placed first in the female ages 30-34 with a time of 1:11:36, and Erica Solway finished with a time of 1:08:06 to win the 35-39 female age group.

Michael Adams of Cedar placed 30th overall with a final time of 1:14:18 and second in the male 40-44 age group.
