Voters set bar for quality education; proud of community

To the editor:

Last night’s news of the passage of the school bond for Leland Public School is another example of why Leelanau County is such a wonderful place to live. All three townships in the Leland School District voted in favor of the measure, setting the quality of local education and the future of our children as a top priority.

As the coordinator of a volunteer mentoring program and a weekly mentor in the sixth grade Exhibition at Leland Public School, I can attest to the need for the reconstruction of the inadequate elementary wing of this facility. I’m proud to have been a part of the community efforts that informed voters of this need and encouraged people to vote.
