Two charges filed in high speed chase


MELICHAR MELICHAR Charges have been filed against a 25-year-old Elmwood Township man who was involved in a one-car accident early Sunday morning.

Jacob E. Melichar of 10080 Melichar Drive was arraigned Tuesday via video on a charge of fleeing and eluding and officer, fourth degree, and operating while intoxicated, second-offense.

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, a deputy was patrolling an area along M-22 in Greilickville when he observed a tan GMC truck parked and movement inside the vehicle.

According to police reports, the truck was seen leaving the property at a high rate of speed. However, when the deputy attempted to stop the truck, the driver sped away beginning a 3.4-mile pursuit with speeds topping 88 mph.

The pickup traveled west on Cherry Bend Road an in the area of Strang Road, struck a deer in the roadway but continued on. The chase ended on East Fouch Road where the driver attempted a sharp turn onto a private road and rolled the vehicle.

Melichar was released Tuesday on a $50,000 bond. A probable cause hearing is set for Oct. 24.
